Janet Sikirica

Janet is primarily a fiber artist residing in Dobbs Ferry, New York just north of Manhattan along the beautiful Hudson River. She has always loved working with her hands and her passion for wool began at an early age with knitting. While maintaining a career in legal human resources for many years, she continued to pursue her curiosity of creating colorful wearable art. Among many of her creative endeavors, Janet pursued a certification in millinery design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Still today Janet creates hats from animal fiber felts, straws and hand-felted wool.

Always seeking new creative outlets especially with wool, in 2012 Janet began to look deeper into the wonders of this unique natural product and discovered wet felting. Felting has become her daily passion, along with dyeing wool and silks to use in her work. In the summer months, Janet likes to dabble in eco-printing (printing with plant matter) on natural fibers. “I continue to study various types of sheep’s wool and the wonderful fiber that these varieties produce. The possibilities are endless!”

Janet enjoys the esthetics of looking at something beautiful – a combination of fiber, texture, color and silhouette. “Felting offers me to work with wonderful versatile wool. It allows me to adapt all that I love in creating wearable art and objets d’art in the form of wall panels, sculptures and vessels.”
