Alison Bert

Alison Bert draws on her background in music and journalism to capture the spirit of people and places, distilling her subjects to convey the most striking and essential elements. She started photography 10 years ago as a reporter for The Journal News. As a freelance photojournalist for AOL Patch Media, she won a second place award from the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) for her photo essay in Rivertowns Patch: “A Community Restores a Torah.”

Since then, her work has been featured in juried exhibitions at the Salmagundi Club, the Lazarus Gallery at United Hebrew in New Rochelle, the Greenburgh Public Library, the Garrison Art Center and the Upstream Gallery in Hastings. In the previous century, Alison was a classical guitarist on the music faculty of Syracuse University, performing solo and chamber music on four continents. She earned a doctorate in music from the University of Arizona, was a Fulbright Scholar in Spain, and studied in an international master class with Andrés Segovia.

She moved to Hastings-on-Hudson in 2009.
